London Police Investigate Overnight Shooting on Dundas Street; One Dead, One Injured

LONDON, Ont. — London police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead and another injured in the city’s core.

First responders were called to the 700 block of Dundas Street at approximately 4 a.m. Police have confirmed that a shooting occurred in the area.

“Officers responded and located two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds,” said Acting Detective Inspector Adam Steele. “One person has since been declared deceased, and the second person was transported to London Health Sciences Centre, where they are receiving treatment.”

The area remained heavily policed throughout the morning, with multiple officers stationed at Hewitt Street and in front of a nearby residence as investigators worked to secure scenes and gather evidence.

Police say they are still working to determine the exact location of the shooting and are appealing to the public for assistance.

“We’re still trying to determine the exact location of the incident and work through any potential evidence and scenes that we may have,” Steele said. “We’re appealing to members of the public, if they have any information, to please call Crime Stoppers or the London Police Service and share that information. We’re also looking for any dash cam footage or video surveillance that may be available in that area.”

The shooting occurred just steps away from the site of London’s first homicide of 2026, where a stabbing at a local apartment complex claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect.

“Any time there’s incidents of gunfire in the City of London, the London Police Service is going to take that very seriously,” Steele said. “We are dedicating as much resources as we possibly can to ensure that we bring this to a safe conclusion and ensure the safety of the citizens of London.”

The investigation has been reassigned to the Major Crime Section. No arrests have been made, and police have not released any suspect descriptions at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact London police or Crime Stoppers.
